Practice in a Nutshell

Type of Practice: Dueling

This is a Swordsman run practice, during the first hour we will take some time to plan what the whole company will do for dueling activities in the Activity Time. So come with thoughts on that. Students, please remember to read your lessons before you come so we can focus on implementing what you’ve learned.

Play Practice

This week the Stage and Middle Woodland will be occupied by members of the community practicing for a play. To have privacy, and to leave them alone, we will meet in the field in Lower Woodland.

Shay’s Thoughts

After Kane’s class on Friday, I spent some time thinking about range and even playing with my footwork thinking of my legs like pistons. It was a good mental and physical exercise for me.

One of the things I would like to have said during my closing thoughts, but blanked completely on at the moment, was something that Kane and I discussed when I was doing the RoR program: Range should be considered a weapon in fencing, not an attribute.

Our Range and Placement should be intentional in every fight. They shouldn’t be something that just happens to us. We should be choosing them and using them to our advantage. There are many ways to gain dominance in a fight, this one is probably the most practical and easy to implement. If we think of it as a weapon it becomes more clear what to do with it. Try it some time and let the rest of us know what you think.

Love ya! Be SHASy
