Training Announcement

As of late, we officers have been thoughtfully considering the progression of those in the training program. We would like to give students more opportunities to progress and receive the lessons they are most looking forward to. To that end, we will be testing a new system over the next couple of months.

For now, this option will only be available to novices; newcomers and initiates will continue to receive lessons in the same manner they have been. Instead of offering only one lesson a week, novices will now have several lessons to choose from. Here’s how it works:

Starting Friday, April 23rd, any novice may request a specific lesson for the following week by contacting our trainer, Evanlyn, either at practice or via Facebook or Band. You will have Friday through Sunday to do so. On Monday, Evanlyn will select lessons to be taught that week based on the number of requests and the relative progress of those who made them. A REQUEST IS NOT A GUARANTEE, but it will be strongly considered. If you do not make a request, you may join whichever lesson you like.

To accommodate, we will also be compiling a list of Swordsmen who are willing to teach these lessons. Starting Friday, April 16th, we will bring a sign-up sheet to practice from which Evanlyn will create a Facebook messenger group, and you will be able to volunteer for specific lessons there. If you would like to teach but do not use Facebook, you will be contacted separately if there are lessons not taken. Remember, as a Swordsman, you are authorized and encouraged to teach! Our future Swordsmen and, in turn, Order of the Rose itself will greatly benefit from your wisdom. As a wise Jedi Master once said, “Pass on what you have learned…”

This test will run through the end of June, at which point we will evaluate its effectiveness and make any necessary changes. We are hopeful that this system will help students to progress at their desired pace, build relationships between students and Swordsmen, and encourage all to own their fencing journey. If you have any questions, please comment below, or get in touch with an officer.
