Sword and Shield Intermediate Course (Iron Thorn Manual 1st Edition)

Bad Habits

Once the basics are learned, fighters have a tendency to slip into the bad habit of being too relaxed when fighting. This will cause bad posture and positioning which in turn causes bad reaction time and poor attack positions (see figures).

While slashing is the primary method of attack, thrusting is still common in Sword and Shield. Thrusting is advantageous due to its speed and accuracy, however it is a weaker attack and can easily be blocked by a shield or knocked out of the way by your opponent’s a sword. The thrust must be extended out and point in (see figure).
