Those were Kane’s apples, the prized apples of Woodland, the golden apples of the Hesperides. Kane threatened death to those that took even a single apple without permission, and somehow, he had an entire box of them.
Trivial Tales will just be little snippets of daily life, meant to tie stories together, and add a little color to Woodland.
It’s a man’s curse to see himself only as that which he lacks, and it’s his blessing to have friends that have the wisdom to see him as he really is.
“The MacBroins have always been a disgrace,” continued the pale boy. “They have always been liars, cowards, and failures. You, though, are the crowning jewel. You’ll always be the pale, sniveling boy waiting for mother to come back.”
Lorcan sneered as he looked over the cliff at the dragon. “That man doesn’t deserve rest. Not in life, nor in death.”
“Boy,” he said, “take it from a very old warrior, there is indeed a dragon here. And, nothing is unkillable.” He smiled bitterly, “not even a god.”
“Lorcan, Mimir’s Well is sacred to the men of the North. Drinking its waters gives you wisdom and power beyond mortal reckoning. Even the gods respected and feared the place, and few of them even dared to take a drink.”
Surely this was some manner of fae curse. Yes, it had to be. But who had cursed him, and why? Titania, or one of her court?
“I’m Puckleflup, patron of finders-keepers, devourer of pies, and master of this castle!”
Lorcan expected that perhaps they would roll out some long red ribbon for him to walk on, and would play trumpets at his return. But, that would be ridiculous. Long red ribbons were expensive and impractical, and trumpets weren’t to be invented for several centuries.
“Besides, where better to put a village than where no one is looking? And where better to place a path than where no one expects it?”
Any man or woman, regardless of wealth or background can join the Order of the Rose, provided they are honorable, brave, and have the will to fight the good fight, no matter how difficult or treacherous it is.
