As we neared the ruins of the ancient castle near to the Heart of Woodland I breathed in the scent of the trees. I felt the canopy filtered sunlight playing across my skin. I could hear the flow of water and the sounds of all the wild things that live in the hidden depths of the forest. The air tasted of blossoms and honey. There really is no place so lovely as Woodland in the spring.

I arrived in Woodland with nothing but my name, the clothes I wore, and that case of salt. It was a buzzing environment. I liked the hustle and bustle of the place. It was as though all the best parts of the world, without any of the bad, had come together in one perfect setting. It was a pure wonder to me.

Veron shook his head, he hated trusting demons. “Let’s do this, then.”
The cave was so bright he forgot what darkness meant. It wasn’t until a moment later that pitch black enveloped his vision, and a small cackle filled his mind. His heart sank slightly, being unable to see anything, but he was unable to fight the process.

She however paused as he held out his pay, seeming to recognize him. “Wait, what’s your name?”
“Veron Tepes, son of Vlad,” Veron replied, setting down his payment as she seemed to refuse to give him his loaf, eyeing him up and down, trying to recognize where she’d seen him before.

“You cannot escape the inevitable, I will have your world for my own,” the voice was dark, guttural and inhuman. And it came from the creature chained against the wall. Veron gazed back and realized her eyes were no longer their purple vibrant color, but rather void, full of power and malicious intent.

One day the boy was scavenging for fruit when he heard the sound of metal striking metal. He went to have a look, and witnessed fencers fighting bandits. He saw a bandit sneaking up on one of the fencers, and so he shouted a warning.

His father was not within the delicately put together pure white bed he was before. He felt a cold steel nibble upon his neck and froze, listening to the loud heartbeat that echoed throughout the room.
“Who are you to enter this sacred place, monster?” A voice resounded.
“Who are you to call your son a monster?” Veron replied.

Veron attacked with such force, he eventually broke through the man’s blocks and sliced open his right arm. “Oooh, more blood for me,” Veron exclaimed, seeing the man’s face contort with disgust and fear which led the stalker to flee as quickly as he could. As the stalker left, he could hear Veron yelling back at him, taunting him to come back to play more.

Suddenly a quick fleeting scout appeared from the forest, panting heavily as he approached the gathered group of fighters. “Blackkoven has been spotted.”

The priest went to help Veron, lifting and carrying Vlad inside while the two hunters slowly and carefully made their way up the steps into the chapel behind them. Upon entering it was dark and musky, frail candles lit throughout the place flickering hesitantly to dispel the shadows that hung everywhere else.
